The first and the foremost stage in any good SEO campaign is to do high-quality keyword research. It's important to do research upfront to make sure you're targeting keywords which people are searching for. It's all well and good to select the terms you like, but if no one is searching for that, then what's the point? We all have seen people say, "Look at all these keywords that I am targeting yet they aren't the keywords users are searching for." It's really easy to rank for keywords you like, but how many are searching for that. Now the million dollar question is - How are we going to find the so-called purchase inducing keywords? What tools to use? There are hundreds of tools out there, it really doesn't matter which tool you use as long as you are doing the research correctly.
There are many free online keyword research tools to choose from. You can use these tools to help build an initial set of terms you want to analyze on. This initial set will give you a clear idea about what should your target be, then you can also have a look at your competitors. Try to find out how your competitors have used these keywords and also start some level of competitive analysis. When you research for specific keywords like "Acoustic bass guitars" you can also find out what are the ranking for that particular term and try to analysis them.
Find out what other terms your competitors are using to increase site traffic and with practice and experience you'll be able to select the right keywords for your site. Use the freely available tools to do some reverse engineering, find out what others are doing to improve their website and analyze how well their site is optimized. One more thing to remember is that keyword research or analyzing is an ongoing process. Because your site is likely to change over time, you need to come up with different effective keywords to remain competitive. The golden rule of good keyword research is to spend time to do it right.
